Kevin, I hate to disagree with most of the replies so far, but I just installed a remote start on my 82 Saab with manual trans. I love it and it works great. Do a Fleabay search for Astra 1000RS remote start for manual transmission. Paid $50 for the kit and installed it myself (12 hours labor..1st install for me). I recommend you have a shop do the inatall. The manual trans version has an specific sequence of things you need to do in order to "ARM" the car before the remote start button is active.
1) car must be running
2) foot off brake pedal
3) E-brake engaged
4) turn off ignition switch (engine remains running)
5) exit car and close door (engine stops and remote is armed)

This ensures that you have left the car in a condition that will not allow it to be started in gear. Also, if a door is opened, brake pedal pushed, ignition switch turned on, or E-brake disengaged...the remote will be "disarmed".

Mine works great on my non-garaged daily driver for Nebraska winters.
