But what is "Plan B" ??? Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Wed, 13 Feb 2008 09:53:59 In Reply to: Re: Starter, Neil, Tue, 12 Feb 2008 10:35:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
If this is a "fun" car, only you can determine how much to put in to it, but if you need it, and it's running fine, and is rust free, then you need to compare the replacement costs.
My sister gave up her 1990 900 to me because it seemed every time she needed it, it was another $500 and a tow (at 15 years and 275k...). Two years and some 50,000 miles later, sure, I've dumped some cash into it (Front wheel bearings, outer CVs, clutch master & line, exhaust stem to stern), but it still gets me where I need to go when I need to go there, and it's definitely not a show car. And for that, she now has a Ford F150 and a monthly payment (or, if not, a smaller savings...).
So, I ask again (rhetorically... it's really food for thought), What is Plan "B" or what do you do if you don't fix it?
I'm not trying to argue for one side or the other. But if you don't fix it, you'll need other transportation (probably), and that doesn't usually come free...
Another thought: Maybe I'm wrong, but "reading between the lines" your wrench may not want to work on the earlier cars...
