5-speed conversion - how many hours? Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Tue, 19 Feb 2008 08:21:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
OK, I tried a flush and fill and new filter, and I must now conclude that the automatic transmission in my 1990 vert is dead, and has moved on to Borg T37 heaven after 157,000 miles -- its like it stroked out.
Anyway, I am sizing up my options. I've read the great DIY on the swap here at Saabnet and it seems very do-able, but I must present my options to the wife.
So, from those of you who have actually done this, I'd like to know how many hours you estimate the swap to take, not including obtaining the parts, simply the guts of the job, assuming I have all of the required switch- over parts from the donor car sitting in a corner of my garage I'll simply assume that whatever it takes get those parts from the donor vehicle is less than or equal to the swap and double the estimate or factor the increased cost to have a junk yard pull the engine/tranmission out for me.
I am a pretty good amatuer mechanic, and a decade or so ago I swapped the engine and transmission in my Fiat 124 Spider (engine once, transmission about 3 times). Actually, I got to where I could swap the transimission on the Fiat like it was doing the spark plugs, LOL.
So guys, what is a reasonable estimate of my time required to do the swap? Thanks in advance.
