twells,
You can't go too much by that check. To check an inner driver/tripod rotation you must hold the inner driver and try to twist the axle itself and the sheet metal shell on the inner driver can slip quite a bit so you almost have to hold it with giant pliers or something to eliminate that slip. The final drive has ring gear backlash which provides a small amount of free rotation when you spin an elevated wheel and the differential bevel gears (in the final drive) have quite a lot of free motion as well. So when you feel the free rotation of a lifted front wheel you're feeling the accumulated free motion in the bevel gears, ring gear, inner driver to tripod and outer CV. Bad CVs tend to exhibit knocking or vibration only while turning and bad inner driver/tripods tend to exhibit vibration only when accelerating but for both joints there can be atypical cases and you can't always tell which side, right or left, is the culprit until you do some deep inspection. Right CVs tend to wear out sooner where we drive on the right side of the road, more sharp right turns than sharp left turns. You should check your front suspension too. A bad shock or control arm problem can cause similar symptoms. See if it vibrates when accelerating straight ahead, I think you need an inner driver/tripod repair or two. Good luck
