Now you've gone and done it! Whomever posted the question about Water4Gas last week has kept me internetically active since then.

Doing a web search, I've found too much information to digest. But basically, The water4Gas system is too crude to do anything but help you to purchase a little less gas. (I was able to download the manuals for free with a little web saavy). It is a very inefficient system. However, there are scads of people globally who have been experimenting with the late Stan Meyers' concepts and getting close to a very workable system that will run efficiently and effectively.

It seems that Mr. Meyers used a Pulse-Width Modulator to overcome the inherent problems with efficient electrolosis. His HHO generator works by charging the water as a capacitor until it reaches full charge, at which point the volts get converted to amps, and you have this massive release of hydrogen and oxygen. This process is far more efficient, and it has been demonstrated by Meyers and others that by using this method, you can achieve massive hydrogen production using very little wattage. Also, with the charge being modulated you don't have the massive heat discharge because the process is cyclic. The Water4Gas system (and others) just use a direct 12V connection and the process will inevitably burn out the average alternator and the componens will need to be able to withstand a lot of heat.

After reading all that I could (for and against--and these discussions get pretty heated) I believe that a hybrid water/gas system is theoretically feasable. Although it appears that noone has come up with a perfect solution yet, even after years of experimentation. I think mainly because many are trying to create a water-only engine. You've gotta crawl before you can walk, walk before you can run.

As Saab owners, we face another problem because in order to reduce fuel consumption you have to trick the computer to run lean. This is easier to do with a MAP than with our MAF. The problem is compounded if you have a turbo. You certainly don't want to inject hydrogen gas before the turbo as the possibility of explosive flash is too great. Injecting it after the turbo causes problems with delivery as the pressure created by turbocharging will interfere with the standard hydrogen gas delivery as designed in most of the systems I've seen. Check valves in the hydrogen feed line won't work because they will be closed by the turbo pressure when you need them to be open for hydrogen delivery. You'd have to figure out a way to increase the pressure on the hydrogen-feed side to be greater than on the turbo side without compromising the HHO you've created--no small task.

These systems seem to be best suited for old-style carbed engines. I plan to tinker a little with my old pickup. That thing gets such terrible milage that any incrimental increase would be good. :-)

This idea has certainly got the old cranial gears turning.
