Well, my mechanic gave me another story.
See, another thing I forgot to mention is that right after I got the new alternator, the battery drained over a period of several days unattended (I think I left a dome light on---oops!). My mechanic knew about that, and he said that my battery was weak, and it had put too much strain on the new alternator to try and charge it, and now the alternator has gone bad and needs to be replaced, along with a new battery.
He determined all this without checking any of the things that the other folks mentioned.
Does this make any sense? I think I'm just going to be paying for the new battery (not the cost of the 2nd alternator) but I wondered why he didn't check anything else first...
