I'm just another shade-tree. I was talking about putting a turbo onto a non-turbo engine. If you can swap a clutch, you can likely do the retrofit. In the context of having some mechanical experience, it's not a terribly difficult thing to do, just a bunch of steps.
As for pulling/installing an engine, the first time I did it I was pretty sure I was in way over my head. It turns out, though, that taking it slow, following the Bentley, marking everything, taking pictures, etc., makes for a pretty rewarding experience: despite my best efforts to mess up the job, I didn't end up with extra nuts/bolts and parts in the end, and the damn engine started up...well, eventually. :-)
The wiring harness does not need to be replaced when converting to a turbo, incidentally. I'm not terribly familiar with 2.4.2 stuff, but it does complicate things, or so I've read.
