The c900 chassis is moderately heavy (for crash strength)... more often, homebrew EV conversions use cheap light cars, or for performance Porsches are popular... I don't think there's any point trying to put a golf cart motor in a Saab... no power... there are much better motors for ev's available to the diy enthusiast that have power capability similar to your original engine... once you pull the engine (and tranny) the weight trades off (at least to a large extent)...
here's a real nice conversion effort on a ng900:

range is limited by battery weight + space to put them (and maybe $$$)... want to get the weight distribution the same though!
I have always had an interest in EV technology and every time we have something major go wrong with our 2.1L or automatic tranny, I think "wouldn't it be nice"... but it's probably cheaper to just keep the C900 original...
If I had the time, money, and access to the technology + materials, it would be a blast to convert a C900 (possibly ours) with a perfect body into something like this:

Volvo made a prototype C30 with this technology, and on the surface, it seems brilliant! Huge weight savings and gobs of power + low end torque... Even the smallest motors get 54HP/260lb-ft per wheel for a 200HP AWD with stupid torque (1000+ lbft has to be limited) flat from 0 rpms! That, and because the motors replace the brakes (regenerative), all the weight you pull (engine, tranny, gas tank, exhaust, etc etc) can go into batteries (+ electronics). Would be lots of fun to convert and to drive! Very Saab...
if you do convert your C900 to an EV, document + post it! would be cool to see what you do!
good luck!
James...
