1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I definitely don't need this, but a 1993 900T convertible showed up at a local shop with $1300 painted on the windshield. I stopped to have a look this evening. The shop owner just picked it up at auction in CT last Thursday. Here's the deal. It's LeMans blue with a black top and light grey interior. The interior is immaculate looking ( I even looked under the back seat cushion) and the dash has no cracks. The driver's seat doesn't even have the usual left bolster wear spot. The top looks new. The exterior has the usual dings and scratches that you'd expect from a car this vintage. The car tracks straight, turbo boosts good and the auto tranny shifts just fine. All electrical switches and components work fine. The odometer shows 103K miles. The car has new tires and brakes and is wearing Comm Ed wheels (dark grey directionals with polished outer edge). There is no rust anywhere on this car, even under hood. Floor is dry, trunk is dry, convertible well is dry (it rained all day Saturday here). It has an after-market Alpine removable-face stereo with CD and satellite radio. It has the original alarm/remote and the key fits all locks and the ignition. Under-hood is tidy and clean. All fluids look good (including tranny). No visible oil leaks.
Now the bad. The convertible top doesn't go down. The motor is running but the top doesn't move. I'm thinking maybe the cable. The speedo/odometer doesn't work (a carfax shows the current milage to be accurate). I'm hoping it's a broken cable as well. The air blows cool at best. Probably needs a recharge (R12). The electric seats are all out of whack and someone who doesn't know how to fix them has pulled the electronic mechanism apart. They are still in pieces. Car has an exhaust leak aft of the cat somewhere which is a little noisy. The lenses on the fog lights are broken. The hood opener handle is currently a pair of vice grips. The boot is missing (I have an extra anyway). When I took it for a test drive, my wife said black smoke came out the tailpipe as I drove away. Sometime between the time the guy purchased the car at auction, and it's delivery here, some idiot hit something with it and destroyed the right front wheel (actually broke a piece off the lip). The lower control arm may also be bent. The spring tower looks OK so I don't think that the upper CA was damaged. There is no other damage to the car.
A carfax shows it spent it's life in Forrest Hills, NY and Suffield , CT. Living what I'd imagine is a very pampered life. A year ago, it only had 85K miles on the odo.
I can't decide whether to pick it up or not. I plan to sleep on it and we'll see in the morning. Unless any of you night owls want to chime in beforehand. :-)
