I'd say look at the hydraulic resivor and see if it's empty? on the 1991 and later you just pull the seat up at the front most edge and it snaps off.
Wheel either replace that one or get a set of directionals, SPG or aftermarket.
on the suspenion hit, the good news is it's the right and not left. very easy to change upper and lower A arms, as well as the knuckle, on the right side, left side book says to pull the engine, there is a trick but much better right side. if you buy the car, you need to look closely the the upper and lower A arms and the knuckle. you are looking for fractured original paint it's your best indicator of pieces being bent. Just got off the phone with my buddy Gary that showed that to me three years ago when we scored a 1990 900T 3door auto for $650. ended up needing about $200 worth of parts, upper and lower A arm, knuckle, bearing for the knucle, other bits and pieces, all in all a very nice car.
Black smoke? how long has the car been sitting and how are the plugs and the gas and all that stuff... would not let that be a deal breaker. but you *could* use it to negociate a better price!
Will you be converting this to a stick?
