ref: '91 900, non-turbo, only ca. 100K miles on odometer.
Some weeks ago I posted on ABS/Brake Fluid warning lights, intermittent failed brake boost, etc. ABS light now permanently on. Brake fluid light comes and goes. I replaced the accumulator sphere with a used OEM one that I bought on e-Bay. No change/improvement. ABS pump not completely dead in that completely discharged accumulator charges up at least somewhat, sometimes, and I can sometimes hear the ABS pump clicking, if not whirring.
I gave up and nursed the car to my local, and evidently well-respected SAAB indy mechanic. He says when he tries connecting the shop computer to the ABS module, he gets no response/no feedback and believes that the ABS module is a part of the complete assembly including the ABS pump, hydraulic fluid reservoir, etc., and non-replaceable as a stand-alone item.
He says he's never quite encountered the total no-response from the on-board ABS computer, and since he doesn't work on so many early-'90s era 900 classics, he doesn't quite know where to go from here. Nor has he so far checked the price/availability of the complete brake hydraulics assembly.
He does say that he finds electrical power delivered to the on-board ABS module, so he doesn't think the problem is in the relay/fuse box over the PS wheel well. I haven't tried opening the relays and cleaning the contacts with emery paper, as has seemed to work for some other posters on this board. He doesn't have any extra ABS box relays to try substituting.
I'm going nuts. Body is perfect; car is from zero-rust/salt region (central FL); interior and under-hood area are immaculate; engine is strong, clutch/tranny OK (but shifting into first sometimes a little dodgy); gets excellent mileage; etc. I'd sure hate to see this puppy run through the crusher.
Anybody out there know where to find a usable complete ABS hydraulics/computer module assembly?
