Ask your mechanic how comfortable he is with a tubing bender for brake lines. I'm thinking that it would be easier and cheaper to convert to an earlier style brake booster/master cylinder setup, even if you use new parts. I'd rather spend the money with his conversion than with a rebuilt $1,000 plus ABS assembly.
Has anyone on Saabnet done this before? I'm thinking that our ABS systems are 3 channel, with independent front brake controls, but only one brake line to the rear brakes. There are only two outlets on the '87-'89 master cylinder, set up as in most cars since the 60s as a dual diagonal system. If one hydraulic circuit fails, then it controls diagonal wheels so the car can still brake somewhat normally to avoid collision.
You could either run another line to the rear of the car, or join the 2 rear brakes with one of the front brakes. The latter is probably inadvisable because you would have a very unbalanced system under emergency braking if only one of the front wheels could brake.
