Later ('90+) red APC kits came with additional parts: a 2.8 bar fuel pressure regulator, and a distributor with a different vacuum/boost capsule on it (the distributor is identical to run-of-the-mill Turbo distributors; just the capsule differs). Your '90 SPG will already have come from the factory with these extra components (unless they've failed and been replaced at some point, which isn't unheard of).
The regulator gives slightly more fuel at wide open throttle. If you are running a red box, then you should at least have a 2.8 bar reg. If your car has a standard 2.5 bar reg, as fitted to Turbos, then you'll want to replace it with a 3.0 bar reg from a non-turbo.
The dist. capsule provides a more gradual boost timing retard curve. There's no harm in running a standard Turbo distributor.
A DIY'er can get red box performance for just a few dollars, some time soldering (no mad scientist skills required), and a 3.0 reg from the pull-a-part junkyard.
