With the rotor, I have often read you need to "break" it off in pieces in order to replace. I have always been able to remove the old one by placing a flat blade screwdriver against the rear edge of the rotor and GENTLY tapping it forward with a light-duty hammer. A couple of light taps and it should slide off. Some also suggest adding Lock-Tite to the new rotor, but I have never found that necessary. Pull the old distributor cap off carefully, with the spark plug wires still attached. Push it aside. Place the new cap on and and transfer the spark plug wires one at a time from the old to the new cap, careful not to mix up positioning. Good luck!
