One of those conversations that just gets worse...

So I was talking to my dad, telling him how a nut had come off the tensioner on the alternator which made the screw come out, fall on the belt, and cause a loud squealing sound when the car was on and the belt running. In passing I noted that the alternator also had a lot of movement as opposed to the rest of the car. And that's when I got one of those responses.
Dad: "Oh. Well... you'll need new bushings on the alternator."
Me: "Hmm, that looks like it's a little annoying. I'll have to remove all those hoses..."
Dad: "Yeah, actually it was one of the hardest things I ever did to the car. Well, no, it WAS the hardest thing I ever did to the car."
Me: "Awesome. My first project is going to be the hardest thing ever. I can't wait."
He already told me about rubber over polyurethane, so that's good, and he's done the job once before, so I've got some phone help there. Of course I'll also be searching the forums here to get any bit of advice, and any new advice is greatly (and I sincerely mean it) welcome.
Wish me luck!
