Good news. We were successful in removing the fuel accumulator and by=passing it with the 18" 5/16th line from NAPA. The NAPA compression connectors and swivels would not fit for installing the used accumulator I have on hand. We removed the banjo fittings from the fuel filter and from the fuel pump--rubber banded rubber fingers from nitrile gloves over the filter inlet and fuel pump outlet--then blew low pressure compressed air through the lines to remove the fuel. Then heated the unions already inserted int the ends of the 18" nylon fuel line from NAPA. The new piece of line only required 10 seconds in boiling water to allow the union to go in. Took around 1.5- 2 minutes of heating with a 1000 degree electric heat gun to get the unions hot enough to push into the 23 year old original fuel lines. The first time I got it into the old line 3/8th of inch and it leaked. Had to go through the above procedure again. Incidentally, my wife held the heat gun while my brother had a hose and a fire extinguisher in his hand should I have ignited anything. Took three of us to do the job. Later, I replaced the 3 clamps on the fuel return line where it attaches to the one way valve. These had rusted through and fallen off the line. Is important, I believe to remove the gas from the fuel lines before shoving in the heated unions. The car starts and runs just as it did before the removal of the rusted fuel accumulator that was shooting fuel right out the top. Thanks to Saabnet contributors for your advice and cautions on working with fuel lines.
