ASC did engineer the top system, but Saab produced all the new bits unique to the Convertible.
All Saab 900 Convertibles were built AS Convertibles in Uusikaupunki, Finland. The ONLY Convertible that was "chopped" and started life as a two-door 900 was the original prototype built by ASC (American Sunroof Company), which is now living a life of leisure in the Saab Car Museum in Trollhattan, Sweden.
After the go-ahead was given for production, the car was taken to the factory, and they designed & engineered the panels, reinforcements, and other unique parts, and the production process.
So, yes, the convertible system was engineered in the USA, but all C900 Convertibles produced for sale to the public were built as convertibles in Finland, starting in early 1986.
