Quite frankly I don't even think special models have much collectors value. I've never heard of a "Saab collector" nor seen a "special" Saab in someone's collection, so I guess that may contribute.
Quite frankly, I think the "special" models are sought after because, hey, when you're buying an old car, you might as well buy the best old car you can. The special models invariably had the best equipment, and for the most part are probably amongst the best maintained.
Someday special models may be worth something, but right now those special models that fetch special money are few and far between... the $4000 SiS isn't really a huge premium over a $3000 nicely maintained '92. I guess a 33% premium, but still only a grand.
Totally unrelated, if you want an 8vT, '84 is the year to get. It was the last year, probably the best year. Hell, I'd put forward the notion that the '84 Turbo just might be the best c900 period. But, if you just want a clean c900 to drive 365 days a year, I'd buy a much newer car for the same money.
