I have an 88 SPG, so whatI know relates to that year (Long ago I had an 83 900T, but that was a long time ago). Being that the engine "starts" with sprayed in fuel, the spark plug side of the ignition system should be good. Dry plugs suggest the ECU is not commanding the injectors to squirt. You could verify this by removing one from the intake manifold and see if it sprays when you crank the motor.
Do you really have fuel pressure in the rail? Have you tried jumping the fuel pump at the fuse box to see if it runs? If the fuel pump doesn't run during engine crank, but does when you jump the fuse, try replacing the FP relay.
Is this a Hall Effect distributor? If so, being that you get spark, the ECU relay should be ok. If not Hall effect, the ECU relay could be faulty, or the ECU itself could be faulty.
Make sure you have enough gas in the tank. I had (I hope "had" is true) issues with my SPG that appear to have gone away once I put more the 1/4 tank of gas.
