There shouldn't be much effort at all - 30-60 minutes, maybe? Things are a little tougher on the non-APC cars, but an '83 it should pretty much be bolt in. One gotcha is that your '83 will not have a provision for a bypass valve, which the '86 stuff will. You can either weld a port onto the top intercooler pipe to accommodate one, or just ignore it. At stock 8v boost, you really don't need one. If you want to run one and can't weld, shoot me an email - I'm pretty sure I have the one I made for my '80 somewhere. Only other thing I'll mention is that the 8v cars don't have the body work to support the intercooler on the bottom. Quite frankly, I don't think you need it - the plumbing will support the intercooler just fine as long as you have the vertical support - the one that bolts to the radiator crossmember.
Is it worth it? I sure think so. It's 10-20 extra hp and can't be anything but good for the engine.
