How are your bushings (control arms, torsion bar, rear linkage)? Worn bushings can make for a very uncomfortable ride as well.
My son drives a 1993 900T Comm Ed with the lowered SPG suspension. I've got a 1992 900T with standard suspension. We are both running Billstein Touring shocks. His car's lower center of gravity makes it handle better in the curves, but both cars have the same comfort when riding on bumpy roads. We replaced all the bushings on the cars last year. The only time his car acts different is on really rough dirt roads. Then the bump stops take a pounding. That being said, mine will too, just not as much.
You won't need a spring compressor to do the rear springs. Just jack up both sides of the car; pull the wheels; disconnect the shock (top or bottom, your choice), and the rear link. Put a jack beneath the rear axle in the center and slowly lower it down until you can work the springs out. Watch the break line from the body to the axle--don't stress it.
Front springs will go really smoothly if you get the proper compressor. Truth is, you can do it with any kind--depending on your frustration quotient. The best kind is pictured below. See if you can rent one, they are quite expensive to buy. I usually pull the front wheel, then I put a jack beneath the lower ball joint and pre-compress the spring before I put the compressor on. It's a lot easier that way.
I have to ask, you said you have a 1993 900T with SPG suspension. Is your car a Commemorative Edition?
