its a combination of aesthetics and engineering and has been debated on this board quite a bit
some are partial to the original bull nose pure lines of the early 900s (with proper headlight treatment) while others prefer the slightly more blingier iterations that appeared post 1987 (power seats, passive belts , power this and that, more chrome);
some like the sedan with its better treatment of the rear light cluster while others believe the two door liftback captures the essence of Saab;
some (although fewer in number) think the mechanical injection CIS fitted to an 8 valve engine with or without Turbo was the better application of fuel injection as diagnosis and repair are not difficult, while many others are of the view the fully electronic jetronic versions are preferred for their better engine management throughout the speed range.
Ultimate goal would be to find a model you like (probably post 88)with zero rust, strong compression, control arms and wheel well areas that are problem free and that is capable of passing emissions.
While many would disagree a Turbo is not essential - the car is just as much a pleasure to drive without it and returns as good or better MPG.
