Perfectly normal. My '92 C900CVT turns almost 3500 at 70 in 5th. The later cars are shorter geared than the early ones, and late convertibles seem a little shorter geared still. 9000s are definitely much taller geared than 900s ever were. The difference can be in the 5th gear ratio or the primary chain ratio, or both. I think the convertibles got the same gear ratios, but a slightly shorter primary chain ratio so all the gears are shorter. In my car, 1st gear is pretty much good for chasing squirrels up trees. :-)
2 grand would seem a little extreme for a 900, thats about what my '08 9-3SC turns in 6th gear at 60. A turbo 900 that tall geared would be pretty gutless on the highway as it would not be able to build any boost in a reasonable amount of time. An N/A one would be way worse.
If my transmission ever blows up, I probably will look for one of the taller geared transmission to replace the one in there now. IIRC, my '85 900T turned about 6-700 rpm less on the highway than the '92.
