1988 Saab 900S, 16V, 5 spd, 174,500 miles
I'm sure that alot of people are following these threads from Tuesday and Wednesday when BAS900 inquired about the proper fluids for a 900.
Here's where I'm at. My 900 shifts just fine and very smoothly. I'm using Castrol GTX 10W-30 in my gearbox. That fluid change has about 5000 miles on it from last fall when I did my inner driver project. I'm ready to change it. However, a number of you have convinced me to stop using 10W-30 motor oil since it doesn't have enough zinc in it.
Two nagging questions that I have. I plan on using Honda MTF since a number of you guys suggested it. Is Honda MTF (part#08798-9031) the stuff I need to use? And, when I drain my old fluid out out of the plug, is there cause for concern about residual compatibility problems from adding Honda MTF to a transmission that had Castrol GTX 10W-30 motor oil? I'm not clear on this at all.
The way I see it, drain it, add the Honda MTF, and change it next year when it has another 5000 miles on it. Thanks ahead of time for your input and help.
