window motor question

I failed inspection because my driver-side window doesn't operate (NJ).. I'm going to try to just go back (I failed in Dec) and see if another person might be more lenient --I also failed for my gas cap which I replaced. But meanwhile, I took the inside off the door and when I hit the switch, I hear a "click" in the door. Which leads me to believe the electrical is working alright and it's probably the motor being stuck. I've read on here of people giving the motor a whack with a rubber mallet or something, but I don't understand how you whack the motor while it's in the door? And I don't understand how to get it out of the door? The pictures in Bentley seem to imply that the window is down while you're doing all this--is there a way to get the window down manually? I've been told by other NJ ppl that if I go through inspection with my window already down, they're not allowed to mess with the windows and so I'll pass that by default
Also, if the motor is indeed bad, and I can figure out how to get it out, can I swap with the pass. side motor? That window works fine...
Thank you!
Sky
