The upper radiator hose sensor is only for the A/C to "Kick" off if this sensor sees too much coolant heat rise. I just removed mine and wired bushed it and resealed the washer with sealant. As landjet said, the NTC sensor between the 2 -3 intake runners (Blue) has much to do with the engine fuel management. It causes more pulse opening time to the injectors until the coolant's warm. Frank Meyers had a problem when his car warmed. He found it to be a faulty Ignition amplifier on the driver side wheel well. He spray some "Electronic Freeze" to check the thermal working condition of the amplifier when the problem arose. Some starting ether will do the same to chill the amplifier. Sound more like a NTC sensor going bad. The symptom I had with the one (NTC) in my Volvo 740T was flooding and stumbling until the engine RPM increased. Hopfully it's not the AMM going bad. Try the cheaper parts / tests first.
