Good input on mileage.
I have wondered what is good mileage for A 1992 2.1 Automatic.
I recently took a 300 mile road trip to the mountains from sea
level of which 80% was sea level and reasonably flat. the remaining 20% was mountain driving to 6000 feet with a descent back to sea level.
At tach readings of 3400-3700 rpm on the highway... I was seeing 23-24mpg or 345 miles on 14.7 gallons on Chevron premium gasoline.

The engine and trans are at the end of a 30k service but the aircleaner is fresh and seems to be in good running order. Does this seem normal?
I would have figured slightly higher mileage ie.25-26. I have been seeing around 20-21mpg with easy town driving.

One transmission anomoly I have noticed on a Factory rebuild is that after sitting for a week, its as if the torque converter drains oil into the case. reverse seems to work fine but shifting is vague and trans seems to slip until driven for a block of two then once "pumped back up" works normally even after sitting for a day or two. Is there a check valve which leaks fluid? I have been told this is normal?? No other non Saab automatic trans car I have driven seems to exibit this. Cold mornings are worst then once warm operation is normal.
Any one else experience this? thanks
