The pump must run Posted by Cmyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Cmyles) on Sat, 3 Apr 2010 13:56:21 In Reply to: Re: Check Your Grounds, sarah, Sat, 3 Apr 2010 12:31:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Sarah,
I'll bet that your over-boost transducer is busted. I think that you get the car started and as soon as the transducer senses engine vacuum it misbehaves and does what it should do in the event of too much boost pressure (cut the pump relay off). It's located under the dash to the left of the steering wheel and, of course has a small hose (originating at the intake manifold) attached to it. They are trouble-prone and lots of guys just remove it from the circuit when they dial up the boost on their 900. If you look at the injection system and fuel pump relays (on the right side wall of the passenger foot area, above the LH brain) you'll see the two brown/white wires coming from the transducer and you can easily disconnect them and then join the brown/white wires from each relay thus removing the transducer from the circuit. Do that and see if the car runs.
Alternatively...The LH brain "thinks" that the engine is revving over 6000 rpm and is cutting power to the system relay and the pump (as it is supposed to at 6000 rpm). What does the tachometer do when the engine is running? Does it instantly go to the peg? That would mean that there is a defect in the engine speed/spark control part of the system. Be sure that the ignition coil primary wires are connected properly, the blue wire goes on the negative terminal (may be marked "1" on the coil), the white/green wire goes to positive (or "15"). If that is the problem a wire shorted to ground could be the cause.
You can connect a long wire, 18 gauge or thicker, straight from a 12 volt source (the battery) to the fuel pump and then start the car and see if it runs. The fuel pump fuse in the fuse box is after the relay so hot wiring off of that fuse to bypass the circuit won't help at all. Let us know what you find.
