No circuit breakers, only fuses Posted by Cmyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Cmyles) on Sat, 3 Apr 2010 14:11:47 In Reply to: Re: Check Your Grounds, sarah, Sat, 3 Apr 2010 13:55:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Sarah,
There are no circuit breakers that can "trip" and then reset in this circuit (or anywhere in the car). The fuel pump relay is energized by the system relay. They are two identical relays (just above the LH brain) connected in series. The LH brain energizes the system relay and it then energizes the pump relay (and other things). Relays can exhibit erratic behavior but your description is that of a "reliable" problem, not an erratic one (it happens every time, not intermittently). If you hotwire the pump as I described in my last post it won't hurt anything but be sure to disconnect the (original) positive wire to the pump before connecting the hotwire and the pump's ground wire (black) must remain connected of course. If you want to put a 20 amp in-line fuse in the hotwire that is fine but for a brief test it shouldn't be necessary. Connect the wire securely to the pump positive terminal first and then to the battery so no sparks are made near the gas tank.
