the ignition timing. Timing is very important with an internal combustion engine, but critical with a turbocharged motor. In fact, after base setting have been achieved with the other stuff, it is the one thing that can change everything. Just a few degress off, and it will either a) boost like hell, but not go anywhere fast-even seen turbo glow cherry just trying to get the engine revving! or b)be reeel smooth with light throttle, but the apc kicks you back to base boost as soon as you spool the turbo. And just right is just rght!
Whenever i do any work on a saab, i always, always drive around for the next week with a 13mm wrench in the dash, and jump out every now and again and just crack that distributor a fraction. After a few days, you get it dialed in perfectly. The goal is stable boost, but good transition and off boost behaviour. Buy a timing light.
