There are actually 3 kinds of clips holding that baby on. At the leading edge there are several, maybe 4 metal spring clips that do not need to be removed. The insulator (I'm talking here about later C900s, not the ones with the open cell foam insulator) tucks in under each clip's extension.
Then, toward the center of the hood, are several larger metal spring clips. These can be wiggled back to the point that they release from the metal of the hood. Take them off.
Finally, at the trailing edge of the hood, are the plastic clips you are talking about. Mine were very pliable. They look like they would have a push pin in the center, but they do not. Stick a philips screwdriver through that home and work them toward you a bit. This loosens them up. Then take hold of them by the edges and work them out. Be patient. They have several layers of ribs on them that need to pull loose. Mine are in great shape and I plan to reuse them.
If you are a stickler for originality (I am) then grab a 12mm wrench and loosen the hood bolts. Have a friend help you lift the hood off. Otherwise, you will have to make some small cuts in the hood insulation to be able to pull it off. Start by folding the sides in past the lip of the hood when you go to pull the insulation off, whichever method you use.
