Unfortunately, I don't think that they're really overcharging you, according to their policies and rates. They're labor rate is at least $95 per hour, as evidenced by the "diagnosis" charge, but likely more. In NJ $125 and up is very common for dealers, and my local indy is $88!

They're within their rights to charge you for diagnosis. In the past, this charge got eaten up when you do the *recommended* work. When you only do part of that, well...

The fans are expensive to replace. It does seem, though, that $1,800 is a LOT to R&R two fans, a t-stat & flush the coolant. One hour, two at most, should cover R&R of the two fans, and the t-stat. That figure should be at LEAST $3-400 less than the $1,800.

But without an itemized quote, it's hard to say...
