I just swapped a manual transmission into my 900 last month, so its fresh in mind. The bolts that secure the primary drive chain cover will fit in the end of the shaft, I just used one of those. If you have a long crow bar, it will be really easy. I did this with the engine out of the car, but I would just slide it as far forward as it will go. You only have to slide it an inch with the crow bar (to loosen it) before it literally just pops out. You can then just pull it forward with your hand. Not much to it.
Definitely use the spacer tool from eeuroparts, though ive used washers before. It will save you an hour of fabrication, and it only costs ten bucks.
The slave is held in with three 10mm bolts. Make sure to seal them with thread sealant when you put those three bolts back in, or brake fluid can leak out (or so I've read).
Once you get that shaft out, and compress the finger-like springs, its pretty easy to pull out the slave and pressure plate. Getting it all back in there is a real pain in the ass...
