earlier c900's have heavier looking wires to the headlights. I've never looked to see if it's just more modern wire with thinner insulation-jacket or actually different guage wire.
You should be able to find the headlight specific plug that works with the standard type bulbs at a good auto parts store. The type of bulb contacts and thus the plug are used on many other makes/models.
They will require wire splices or connectors. If grounding seems to be any concern you can add specific grounds for the headlights by slicing in to the ground lead.
Glad to be of help.
While you are working this take a look at the headlight relay. I had a similar heating problem at one of the plug in contacts at the relay that began causing problems later. You can release the female contacts from the panel and pinch them a bit to restore tight fits. On my '87 one of the contacts had heated to the point of some plastic melting and I had to drill out the contact point so I could pass a regular female connector thru the panel to plug onto the relay. Thought I might have to replace the entire fuse -relay panel to have good mounting for the relay contact, but my temp repair has been good for many years and I've never had another headlight issue.
