There are a number of ways to get into that tank. Removing the fuel pump is easy enough and would give you all the room in the world to stick a syphon hose in there. The fuel level sender is also an easy place to get at. Personally, I'd just take the fuel line off at the filter (you'll be changing that anyway) and find a safe way get the fuel from that line to a gas can. jumper the fuel pump relay and let 'er rip. Just be careful not to run the pump to empty. The fuel cools and "lubricates" the motor.
These cars, like others have said, usually start without any problems. In my younger, even stupider days, I would often take cars that had been sitting for YEARS and if they fired up, I drove them. I never changed anything. Luckily I never had any issues. Occasionally I'd have a fuel accumulator go after a few days but that was in the CIS days.
Good luck.
