So, I've dug into this issue a bit further.
First of all, upon starting the car for the first time today, the TEMP gauge shot *all the way to the top* right away. That sure seems like a sensor/sender/electrical issue, if you ask me.
Secondly, in an earlier reply I mentioned that I popped a fuse turning on my headlights. Well, it appears that that little issue is a big bigger than I thought. The fuse was not just blown, but almost melted. Also, I found out today that my 30A cooling fan fuse was also blown, and would then continue to blow when I'd try to replace it. I eventually unscrewed the main fuse block and lifted it up to see the wiring -- of which *several* wires were melted. Yeah. Sucks. The worst two wires went to the fog lights, so I've since disconnect those entire. The fog lights, though cool looking, have been trouble-prone for me. I'm just not goin to mess with them any longer.
Anyhow, one of the wires to the 30A cooling fan fuse was bared a bit, so I started taping up the wires that I could see had issues. I'm now able to replace the 30A cooling fan fuse without blowing, which is a good sign.
Thirdly, I found the *actual* coolant sending wire, removed it, brushed off both sides with a wire brush, and replaced it. No luck. Strangely enough, the TEMP gauge shoots to the very top with or without that sending wire connected. Mean anything?
So..........I'm basically uber-frustrated right now. I've dumped a bit of money into this car already this year (common stuff, but still frustrating), and this is just icing on the cake. Not anyone's problem but my own, just sharing. I'm sure some of you know how I feel.
Any thoughts on what to check next?
