Yes, I added the drain holes and cut some openings at the back rear as well. I also had to to some grinding/reshaping and then rebuilding of the bottom to make it fit snugly on the contour of my hatch.
My biggest task was reshaping the edge that goes under the weatherstrip. That area was about 1/4" thick on my tail. I placed it on the car under the weatherstrip and traced a line along the edge of the weatherstrip. Then I ground down and reshaped the edge of the tail so that it was only about 1/8" thick where it fits under the weatherstrip (just like OEM). It took a bit of fiberglass work to do the edge detail there so I had a nice smooth rounded dip/transition from the tail surface to the part that goes under the weatherstrip. I believe Jon had to do the same. You can see it better in his picture.
