I'd probably still go with the Nakamichi unit. I believe that to add the ipod jack to the Clarion unit you'll lose the ability to play cassettes, not a big deal if you never play any anyway. But you also will have no CD unless you have a functioning lower-din Clarion CD unit as well. Or do you plan to get both from Saabradio? Also the ipod input is simply a 1/8" jack, no way to charge your ipod unless you have a separate cord.
Clarion unit was good technology for 1990, but it's certainly nothing to write home about.
My guess is that the aux input is in the back. You may be able to get an ipod cable with RCA and power feeds to connect it. I just picked up a cable for the Alpine system in my car for about $12 on the bay. Just one connection to the ipod and it charges as well. Here's what it looks like.
