Question re: R&R door seals Posted by Arabiflora [Email] (#1129) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Arabiflora) on Tue, 8 Mar 2011 22:49:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had occasion recently to take a nice long interstate road-trip in my '93 Soos. She ran great, but I couldn't help but think that there was too much white noise along for the ride. It was coming from the doors (both DS and PS) and when I got home I took a closer look.
I'm going to try to do this without pics, so please bear with me. The door seal that runs across the top of the door and then dives down towards the front of the car is withdrawn at the angle of the dangle-- i.e., where it makes that turn. I can push it up into what I think is its proper place, but it doesn't stay put.
The same situation applies to both doors, and I'm convinced that it is the source of white noise (and draft). How to fix? It appears to be a purely friction-fit installation-- no sign of adhesives anywhere, but I'm thinking that a bead of black RTV might keep it in place. Any downside to that plan? Alternative adhesives? Alternative fixes?
