I recently replaced 2 of them in our 2 cars... insulation crumbling off... one car had starting/charging issues... other one was fine. when I replaced the +battery cable + cap + rotor, the car with starting issues ran great + charged properly again... I think this is a common problem now on these cars if it wasn't replaced already at some point (I've seen others that look bad also)... if the insulation is crumbling, moisture could be getting in and causing havoc... main spot to check is at the lower cable tie between the battery + engine... also corrosion at the ends...

wrt plugs... I only use NGK (as per the manual) and have had no issues. my understanding is these cars do not like Bosch plugs... switching plugs is a cheap and easy test...
