hi all - yesterday afternoon i was highway driving (going about 55) and out of nowhere .... BANG ..... a car coming from my rear left smashed into the driver side door.
long story short - police called .... driver and passenger were in possession of drugs (passenger took off after the hit but was apprehended) ... so they were handcuffed and off they went.
my beautiful '93 Saab 900-S is a bit worse for wear but i'm alive without a scratch.

1) it appears that most of the damage was to the driver door and bit of damage to the panel in front of the door. still working out insurance details, but i'm assuming i'd need a replacement door and some body work to mend that adjacent panel. any thoughts on the cost for this kind of thing?

2) my concern is getting enough money from the insurance company for the repair. i'm estimating the book value of the car around $3200.00? anyway, wondering if any of you
carry anything over and above minimum insurance (i don't carry comprehensive or collision - due to the age of the car) .... but any thoughts you might have on protecting your investment would be welcome. or anyone who has had their car whacked and has a few thoughts for me on this would be helpful.
