What's the secret (torque converter seal)????? Posted by BAAB [Email] (#1214) [Profile/Gallery] (more from BAAB) on Sat, 22 Oct 2011 20:32:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My torque converter seal on my auto box was replaced by removing the front and lower front cover, unbolting the valve body, and then getting the tubes to drop enough off the pump to slide the pump right how without a problem. So one doesn't have to separate the engine and tranny. This is on a freshly rebuilt auto box with a freshly rebuilt torque converter too. So with the engine and trans together and the new TC bolted properly to the flex plate, I then ensured that the pump stator shaft was centered to the where the TC goes into the pump (using the SAAB tool), installed a new bushing in the pump, and the pump slid right in place without a problem. No chance of damaging the seal in this case. So I know it is on perfectly straight, but the seal is leaking. I am so fed up with this, but would like to keep her original since a lot has put into this so far. Am I missing something here? Is there some magic trick to get the stupid seal to not leak? Is there a detail that I'm missing that is not obvious? What the heck! Thanks!
