Back on the road after 5+ years! Quick tranny question. Posted by Devin [Email] (#2469) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Devin) on Thu, 9 Feb 2012 06:19:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Dear All,
My 92' Turbo is tagged, inspected and smogged, and is sitting in my mom's garage happily after years in "hibernation." Thanks for the help with the clutch hydraulics among other things.
I had a local Saab mechanic who my dad's been using tune it up, change the fluids, fix the reverse lockout and inspect it. But it doesn't look like he touched the tranny fluid. I'm not sure if his decision to not touch the tranny was intentional or an oversight.
What's the thinking on these 5 speeds? I know MTL or Honda. But is there an argument for NOT changing the oil if everything's shifting good and sounding good?
Could it be that he didn't want to risk shaking some fatal debris loose, and then having me come back and complain? So tranny fluid service is DIY by default? The car's got 144K on the clock.
Thanks, Devin
