Recommendations may say to replace the nuts, but as others have said, doesn't seem necessary. Also, you say the locking feature won't work twice, but that's not necessarily so - - on re-screwing them after removal there does seem to be a little less friction from the nylon part but it's still there and resists turning.
Anyway, the nylon part is only like a remote chance backup, in the odd event that the nut somehow wasn't tightened enough and wanted to work loose; it wouldn't because of the locking collar.
And also, the force these bolts resist isn't sideways, against bolt head and nut, but up and down and in and out, working of ball joint forging against bolt shank and holes in a-arm. They only need to be tightened to the specified torque and the nuts will go nowhere. Locking collar is like a man putting on a pair of suspenders when he already has a belt on and tailored pants that fit snug to his body also.
As to your acorn-nut ideas, Zig, I like the classy look but you should realize that though those threads do get dirty, and sometimes, as on exhaust studs, rusted and heat-burned, they can be cleaned up before you ever need to remove one of those nuts. In the case of the exhaust nuts, heating the nut with say a MAPP gas torch should make them expand enough to come off smoothly despite any rust on your threads.
