I also had a clunk that could be described the same way -- wheel bearing shift in the spindle that is corrected by a service bulletin using a shim to take up the slack between the circlip and the face of the bearing.
Unless you are compelled to do it, I wouldn't do anything until you have to replace the axle or the wheel bearing. Then, do all the ball joints, worn bushings, and anything else you can afford.
