My motor with 330,000 miles has all the intake manifolds grommets a inflated sticky goo, none of them are reusable. I wish it was a grommet issue. I`m thinking the vacuum advance is sticking and keeping the timing retarded & keeping the car from boosting. When the problem happens there isn't a hint of boost at all the boost tac stays just under the atmospheric mark in every gear its like hitting a wall every time. There's never just a little boost, the boost is either non at all or the entire load. The only safety left in the car is the knock sensor and the wast-gate (not locked down) and the vacuum advance in the distributor (if thats even a safety item) but other wise everything has been over road, and before the swap the 330,000 motor was idling and boosting with no prob. piston rings and blown turbo is what caused the swap.
You know how you start a c900 and stand by the idling motor and its just purring, even if its idle hunting its still perring doing it. this motor sounds deeper with more of a bass to it and it sounds Grrrrrrrr instead of Purrrrrr but seriously this motor reminds me of a motor ready to blow up idling, it doesn't matter if its doing 110mph or idling sounds like its getting ready to blow, like its working hard just to idle. Don't get me wrong it has a rock solid idle it just the sound of the motors wrong.
Now that I think about it. Swedish dynamics have upgraded cam shafts for the 16valve, and they say it would increase horsepower. This would change the sound. to what I don't know because I never heard swedish dynamics upgraded cams running in a motor.
I have to change the valve cover gasket (and paint the cover while its off) but I`ll take a look at them and see if their the same as the motor that was just pulled. The distributor that its running on is the first time I ever used it, perhaps its at fault for retardation. In any-case Ill swap it out.
