Tapping After Head Job

About a week ago, I replaced the leaky head gasket on my 92 900s. It had been leaking oil into the water for years. The head was plained and cleaned and I followed the procedure in the red 16 valve SAAB manuel to the letter. For the first 200 miles I've been babying the engine and its been getting more and more quiet. But there is one mystery noise that still gets me. When the engine first starts, it sounds fine. As I drive it, a distintive tapping becomes louder and louder. I'm not sure if this is a re-worked head issue, a timing chain issue, a improperly installed head gasket issue, air in the oil lines, or just wear. It didn't do this before, and the thing runs like a champ and purrs like a giant cat. I did notice that the timing chain tensioner is about 12 mm extended, but I doubt its a timing chain issue as it didn't tap before the head job. I've read that often head jobs often produce mysterious noises that disappear in time, but I don't know if this is one of those noises. Any thoughts?
Thank you.
