If you've just gotten a tranny rebuild, you've already done the most expensive thing that you can have done to a c900. Anything else that could go wrong is minor compared to that. If you plan to keep it, be proactive and replace certain failure-prone items before they become an issue.
Several years back, I bought a 1993 900T vert for $1300. Needed some work, but nothing I couldn't handle. I was going to repair it and flip it. After I made the repairs, my wife didn't want me to sell it. I figured if I was going to keep it and drive it daily, I was going to go through the whole car. I pulled the motor and rebuilt it just for insurance. The car had 108K on it at rebuild time, I just turned 150K. The engine runs like a top, and doesn't burn or drip a drop of fluid. I have driven this car to work 40 miles each way for 3+ years and the only time it left me stranded was when the fuel pump quit. I got a lift to an indy friend about 10 miles away who had an extra fuel pump, and I changed it in 20 minutes in the parking garage and was on my way again. (BTW, the fuel pump was for a 9-5, which fits once you remove the fuel level sending contraption.) I have, and would not hesitate to again, driven this car on long trips without issue. These cars are inexpensive to own and easy to repair, besides being a blast to drive and being practical. I can't tell you how much money we've sunk into my wife's V70XC in the years we've owned it, and it still has some issues. Newer cars can also leave you stranded, and are damn expensive to get fixed once out of warranty--which is usually when things start to fail.
I assume since you live in NYC, being a two-car family is out of the question. Yes?
