The SPG stuff varied a bit between years. 1985 was the first year they offered the SPG package in the US - the only thing special about it was the body skirts, 3-spoke rims, and sway bars. The leather was the same tan leather as other cars, the shocks and springs were the same , and as far as I can tell, the engine and management was all the same as the turbo. '86 introduced the edwardian grey paint and buffalo grey leather, '87 introduced a new set of bumper extensions and a different engine management setup, '88 i believe was the year for the lowered springs and stiffer shocks, '90 had the mitsubishi turbo, talladega red paint option and an even better APC, and '91 only a handful of SPGs were shipped over in Red, Black and Beryl green. I could be slightly off on a couple of those things - please do correct me if I'm wrong.
As far as your rust buckets are concerned, by all means, swap over all the SPG stuff to a new car! There are those among us who are purists - spitting on "mock-SPGs" as they are called, but when it all comes down to it, it's just a Saab, not a ferrari. Put the dang SPG panels on another car. It looks cooler and it's not like yours sounds like it is destined to be a museum piece anyway. If your SPG is an 88 or newer, keep the body skirts (especially the bumper extensions), springs, shocks (if they are still any good), turbo stuff, rims, and leather seats (if they are still any good). If it's older, then skip the springs - they are most likely not any different than what you already have.
