Gigantor--

I truly feel your pain. I have an '88 SPG with nearly 400K on the clock. Edwina had been hit in the left fender when she lived with her prior owner...when she came to live with me 7 years ago, the fender was showing signs of rust, which slowly got worse as she was my daily driver. She carried me safely through sleet, snow, rain, no matter the weather, if you had to get there, Eddy was the Saab you wanted under your butt. It was getting harder and harder to get her onto a lift...the front jacking attachment went, then a hole at the bottom of the fender, then the rot spread into the rocker panel. I knew it was getting bad when I got wet rear carpets after driving in the rain. Last fall, my indy pulled the front seats and the carpets and made the horrifying discovery that the floorboards from the driver's door to the middle of the exhaust tunnel were non-existant. The doors were pretty bad, too. I felt like someone had sucker punched me deep in the solar plexus.
But, we've replaced the doors (which were rotted from the bottoms all the way to the window sills) and the liftgate (which was leaving rust crumbs whenever you walked near it) and the hood (which had a huge hole in the right side, where they usually begin to rot) and now Edwina is in storage, waiting for me to accumulate the funds to weld in new floors and give her body a complete repaint. Expensive? Yeah, but well worth it to save an old friend..........
